As a home-based travel professional, your “office” can vary from a beautifully repurposed room in your home with a separate entrance to a laptop on the dining room table. So, what are you supposed to do when a local prospect wants to meet in person to go over their travel wishes? Here is my advice:

 

  1. If you know the person, or feel comfortable with them, it’s fine to have them come to your home office, or to meet them in their home. Meeting them in their home is preferable because it gives you an idea of how they live and offers a high level of customer service.
  2. Many advisors have scoped out local coffee shops or cafes that offer a handy place to meet, along with dependable Wifi. This is a great option if there is a quiet enough spot to be able to discuss and really hear each other.
  3. Some advisors go as far as to “rent” a flexible office space like WeWork, Regus or something similar. It can be a very reasonable option and some even include receptionist and printing services.

 

Wherever you meet, be sure that you are dressed professionally, you are over prepared for the meeting and that you walk in with a smile on your face…And remember that your job is not only to qualify the client, but also to get them EXCITED about the possibilities for their upcoming travels.
